Jemima is eleven years old. She lives with her grandmother and two brothers. She and her brothers lost their mother. Jemima desires to go to school, but her grandmother does not have money for school fees, lunch or uniform.

Most of the times, it is a struggle for the grandmother to feed Jemima. Sponsors gave her the gift of education. The sponsors paid for her school fees, shoes, uniform and daily lunch.

In Ghana many aged impoverished grandmothers are taking care of their grandchildren because the parent is deceased or cannot provide for the child. It is HTG’s goal to help these children stay in the village with their grandmothers or other relatives so they will not have to go to an orphanage.

HIV/AIDS and other issues related to poverty contribute to the number of orphans in Ghana. HTG works with orphanages because for many children this is their only option for food, shelter, clothing and an education. The other alternative is the streets. During our last visit to one of the orphanages, we met Seth who was hit by a car, rushed to the hospital and left there for months. No one came to take this eight year old child home. The orphanage provided a home for him.

HTG was able to paint Baptist School and Orphanage Complex (BASCO) in 2010 and 2011.
